British multinational pharmaceutical, vaccines and consumer healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline manufactured Paxil, a paroxetine antidepressant which was first released to the market in 1992. In 2008, Paxil gained popularity after being named as one of the best selling drug in the United States. Its fame has turned to notoriety when the US FDA announced that Paxil may cause harm to pregnant users, breastfeeding mothers, their neonate and children users. Subsequent researches show that Paxil may be the cause of autism and other bodily malfunctions, including inflammation.

The most harmful of the side effects mentioned by ongoing studies are Paxil birth defects. These are believed to be transferred through intake during pregnancy by the woman user or through breastfeeding. In all these likely injuries, the many different aspects of Paxil side effects have been dissected. Its link to addiction, lawsuits, alcohol and pregnancy made it infamous. The uninformed, unsuspecting patients are the most vulnerable prey for this. Out of the 121 million people suffering from depression, only a few make themselves aware of the benefits and risks of using a certain type of medication. The challenge is for users to learn more about the drug and be vigilant in asserting their rights as consumers.
